What these kids are saying is actually true today. You’re probably thinking, “Ok, what’s the big deal?” Well, back in 1995 many people wouldn’t believe what we do with the internet today.
Keep reading to find out more.
The internet has actually been around for a very long time. But it wasn’t until the 1990’s when it became available to folks like you and I.
During the 1990’s, the internet was VERY different than it is today. For example, computers were plugged into a phone jack (Oops, you’re probably like, “What the heck is a phone jack?”). Ok, computers were plugged into the same outlet that old school phones used. That means, if you were on the internet, you would miss calls from your friends.
Yup, no cell phones for us back then.
When you want to visit a website today it’s as simple as pressing a button. Back then it took a lot longer. Computers used what was called, “dial up” service.
You would type in some information, then you would hear this:

Sometimes the line might be busy, and then you would have to wait. How long? Sometimes a few minutes. Sometimes longer.
Websites also did not have nearly as much material, cool graphics, games, videos, and other things like websites today. “Dial up” service couldn’t handle it.
It would take about 7 hours to get on a regular website today using dial up. And much longer for some other websites.
7 hours to wait for Scribble Scoop….yup, we would wait ;)
